Who We Are

Under His Wings was founded in 2024 to provide courage and strength for children that have been exploited. In 2017, co-founder Chris Jacobs envisioned a project that would bring the topic of human trafficking in our area to light. In August of 2024, Chris and Ericka received a foster placement that would restart that initial flame to help victims of trafficking. With a rough draft and an eagerness to begin, they spoke with their pastor about creating this vision. Pastor Luke provided them with the matches to start the fire. Chris and Ericka reached out to The House of Refuge in Atlanta, Georgia, who graciously gave them information to get the project rolling.
So what is the plan for Under His Wings at this time? For one, our state needs the proper education to be able to identify and report victims of trafficking. This means schools, churches, healthcare facilities, and various other places that directly interact with vulnerable children. Second, we want to establish relationships with healthcare and mental health facilities that we can partner with to ensure prompt care for victims. Lastly, we want to work with the state government officials to push for more strict punishments for traffickers and abusers to protect victims and prevent re-victimization.
Under His Wings has the dream to eventually open West Virginia’s first treatment facility specifically designed for victims of child sex trafficking, so that they have a safe space to heal mentally and physically while receiving the appropriate care from treatment staff, and to prepare for transition back into the community. Following care with Under His Wings in the treatment home, support will continue to be offered to victims.

The hands of Under His Wings consists of professionals and volunteers who have completed On Watch training to provide the best care to the children we assist. Our team is equipped with the knowledge to identify, report and educate others on the topic of sexual exploitation of children. We also have the ability to assist victims with establishing the appropriate mental health and medical care for them to start their journey towards healing. We hope to grow our staff to consist of various mental health professionals to offer additional treatment.
