Every year, there is an estimated 300,000 children that are victims of sex trafficking in the United States. That is slightly over 4% of the nations youth population.
WV is rated 46th in the nation (while being tied with UT, ND, WY, and AK). In other words, tied for last.
WV receives 6 reports per 100,000 people, while there is an estimated 3,900 people victimized per year in our state.
In WV, a majority of children are trafficked by someone they know
Currently, WV does not have any residential support services that are specifically for child trafficking victims. This means victims would go to inpatient treatment facilities for mental healthcare.

Education for law enforcement, juvenile Justice system, child welfare workers, prosecutors, educators, students, healthcare, and hospitality.
We need residential treatment facilities specifically for trafficking victims, including emergency placement, long-term placement (12-18 months), and transitional placement.
Make changes in legislation to mandate human trafficking training for professionals that directly interact with vulnerable youth and adults
Educate non-trafficking residential programs with human trafficking training to increase survivor identification in order to refer victims to agencies equipped to serve trafficking survivors.
